Wave Upon Wave

Victoria - 10 Oct 2025 to 12 Oct 2025
Joanne Winstanley

"I know that if a wave of energy is allowed to complete itself, it yields a whole new wave, and in fact that is all I really know." ~ Gabrielle Roth

The 5Rhythms® is a simple, powerful movement practice which guides us to re-connect with our innate body-knowledge, wellness, and wisdom. Each individual rhythm – Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical, and Stillness – holds many teachings, and when we dance all 5Rhythms in sequence, or in a cycle, we call that a 'Wave.' Many natural cycles, when left to their own unfolding, will naturally follow a wave-like pattern: the rhythm of an individual day, the way that stress and/or excitement wants to move through our body, the phases of a creative project or a human life. In this work, the Wave is a central metaphor, a pathway, and a map we can follow and practice and explore.

This workshop is both an introduction and a deep dive into Gabrielle Roth’s healing movement work – the 5Rhythms. We will gather and share a whole a weekend to expand and immerse into the physicality of our movement practice. We will move together through our own terrain, individual and collective, each of us with respect for our body’s own pacing, and in our own way. We will explore the qualities, embodiment, and gifts of each rhythm as it carries us through a Wave.

Joanne teaches 5Rhythms with a deep respect for the transformational nature of this practice, for the insight that these maps can bring to our daily lives, and for the unique discovery process of each participant. Her teaching is rooted in a lifelong engagement with her own study and personal work. Since 2001, she has held a steady space for the growth and evolution of a robust dance community in Victoria BC, has supported students and colleagues developing their own teaching path, and has shared her love of this practice with communities, across Canada and overseas.

Through Shadows

Vancouver - 8 Nov 2025 to 8 Nov 2025
Gloria Glo

We often crave freedom, release, connection—but what happens when life mirrors back what we don’t want to see?

The stuckness, the control, the overwhelm, the pretending, the disconnection. Too often, we move through our days without noticing the shadow moving through us—shaping our choices, our reactions, our relationships—without our consent. Through Shadows invites us to sharpen our seeing. To pause the autopilot. To recognize when we are no longer fully present, and to meet the patterns we thought we’d escaped with curiosity, awareness, and courage.

This one-day intensive offers a map for navigating the undercurrents that live in each rhythm. We won’t name or shame the shadows—we’ll study them, feel them, move them. We’ll explore the subtle and not-so-subtle ways they show up in our bodies and relationships, and learn how to shift them through conscious embodiment. Because the first step to transformation is simply this: to look. To tell the truth in motion. To meet the shadow not with judgment, but with fierce curiosity—and the willingness to keep dancing.\

IN THIS WORKSHOP YOU WILL

  • Learn to recognize the subtle signs of shadow when it appears in your life or movement
  • Explore each rhythm as both medicine and mirror—revealing where you’re free and where you’re stuck
  • Identify patterns and habits that influence your decisions and behavior
  • Develop strategies to work with resistance and obstacles effectively
  • Strengthen your awareness of how actions and choices are influenced by unconscious patterns
  • Discover how engaging with the shadow can improve clarity, focus, and intentional living
